Piano Moving

Spinet, upright and grand pianos moved safely with custom rigging, climate-controlled storage and white-glove care.

A piano is heavy, awkward and easy to damage. An upright usually weighs 300 to 500 lb and a grand 500 lb or more, with a delicate soundboard, strings and finish inside. Our piano crew moves instruments of every size with piano dollies, skid boards, padded covers and ratchet straps, and plans the route (doors, turns, stairs, elevators) before anything is lifted.

Whether you are moving a family upright across Windsor or a grand piano out of a condo, you get a flat-rate quote, a fully insured crew and careful handling from the first wrap to the final placement.

Piano services

Professional piano moving and care, from one crew

Moving a piano is a specialist job. We bring the equipment, the technique and the planning so your instrument arrives in the same condition it left.

  • Specialized equipment

Professional-grade piano dollies, skid boards, padded covers and ratchet straps, chosen for the size and type of your piano.

  • Piano tuning service

A move changes the temperature and humidity around a piano. Once it has settled in its new room we can arrange a tuning so it sounds the way it should.

How we protect your piano

Four promises on every piano move

  • Attention to detail

We plan the whole move first: the size and weight of the piano, the best route out and in, and the handling method for each step.

  • Timely delivery

Punctuality matters. We schedule carefully and work efficiently so your piano arrives when we said it would.

  • Special equipment

Padded covers, piano dollies and secure straps keep the instrument protected and stable from room to truck to room.

  • Safety and security guaranteed

Your piano is covered by our insurance for the whole move, so you can leave the worrying to us.

Tailored moves for every piano

Spinet, console, upright or grand: we know the difference

Every piano type has its own size, weight and weak points. This is how we approach each one.

  • Spinet piano

    Height
    36 to 39 in
    Weight
    250 to 350 lb

The smallest of the uprights, made for small spaces. Compact, but still heavy for its size, so we use a piano dolly, a padded cover and straps, with extra hands on stairs.

  • Console piano

    Height
    40 to 44 in
    Weight
    300 to 400 lb

A little taller than a spinet, with a direct-action mechanism that gives a fuller sound. Wrapped and strapped on a dolly, with the route planned for doorways and turns.

  • Upright and studio piano

    Height
    48 in and taller
    Weight
    350 to 500+ lb

The tallest of the uprights, with a full sound comparable to a small grand. Top-heavy, so it is padded, strapped and moved with a larger crew.

  • Grand piano

    Length
    5 to 9+ ft
    Weight
    500 to 1,200+ lb

From petite grands to concert grands. Legs and pedal lyre come off, the piano is tilted onto a padded skid board, wrapped and strapped, and rebuilt in the new room.

Our process

How we move your piano, step by step

  1. 1

Assess the piano and the route

We confirm the type and size, measure doorways and turns, and check stairs, steps, elevators and parking at both addresses.

  2. 2

    Protect before lifting

The lid and keyboard cover are secured, legs and pedals are protected and the whole instrument is wrapped in thick moving pads.

  3. 3

    Lift and load

Uprights go on a piano dolly. Grands have the legs and pedal lyre removed and are tilted onto a padded skid board. Straps keep everything locked in place.

  4. 4

    Secure transport

The piano rides tied to the truck wall so it cannot shift, with other items kept clear of it.

  5. 5

    Place and reassemble

We carry it to the room you choose, refit the legs and pedals on a grand, and set it away from heat, vents and direct sun.

Be ready

How to prepare for piano moving day

  • 1Clear the path from the piano to the door: rugs, furniture, cords and loose items.
  • 2Tell us about stairs, steps, tight turns, elevators and parking when you ask for a quote.
  • 3Take everything off the top of the piano and keep the lid and fallboard closed.
  • 4Plan your tuning for a few weeks after the move, once the piano has settled in its new room.
  • 5Choose a spot away from radiators, vents, outside walls and direct sunlight.
